Captain Sensible: Solo & Beyond... (1981)

This listing of appearances by Captain Sensible for 1981, outside of The Damned, should be considered as 'work in progress'.

* (with) Charlie Harper & Friends (band comprising Charlie Harper (vocals), Dave Dudley (guitar), Captain Sensible (guitar), Steve Slack (bass), Nik Turner (sax), Pete Davies (drums)

Tuesday 29 December 1981 - 100 Club, London

Set: unknown.

Comments: Lords Of The New Church also on the bill.

* (with) Short Commercial Break (band included Kirsty / Christiane Kistner (assumed vocals and bass), Captain Sensible (assumed guitar), Matthew Best (assumed drums)

Monday 8 June 1981 - Gossips, Soho, London

Set: unknown.

Comments: Support to Charlie Harper (probably solo rather than with band). Short Commercial Break (SCB) supposedly only played covers of UK TV advert themes. The line-up of SCB is known to have fluctuated during their short lifespan and the Captain is not thought to have been a regular member - so this is likely to have been his only live appearance with the band. (The band recorded a John Peel Session during 1982 - singing Oxo, Yorkie, Smarties and Bran Flakes - with the line-up of Bernie (lead vocals), Kirsty (backing vocals, guitar), Allan (bass).

* (with) Chaos Factory (band included Captain Sensible, Nik Turner, Matthew Best, Bob?, Trevor (Thoms?)

Friday 5 June 1981 - Cecil Sharp House, Regents Park, London

Set included: Dancing Queen, The Pied Piper, I'm Into Something Good, Do You Wanna Dance, Red Dress.

Comments: Billed as Chaos Factory with Captain Sensible, support from Nik Turner.

* Support to Poison Girls

Thursday 26 March 1981 - Rotterdam, Netherlands

Set: unknown.

Comments: An entry in the Captain's diary simply stated - 'Me and curse [a band or a familiar name for Kirsty?] support Poison Girls in Rotterdam'.
